Last December, when looking for hotel to stay in Ubud, Bali, we rad a lot of review about Tegal Sari in Ubud. Almost all of the review comes with a warning: Book in advance. We tried our luck and as warned, the room is fully booked.

We almost meet the same fate when booking for our trip on May. Tegal Sari only has 1 night available, and the date was certainly not the one we planned to stay overnight in Ubud. Curiosity beats all. We tweak our itinerary, and confirm our booking. Yeah, we are very curious, if Tegal Sari Ubud really lives up the reputation.

Bookings, Checking In and Warm Welcome

The most practical way to book is through phone or email. Confirmation will be sent by email, and Tegal Sari also require advance payment. There are 1.8% extra charges for payment using Credit Card, which makes the reservation quite cumbersome. Make sure to check out the room type at their website: http://www.tegalsari-ubud.com

Getting into Tegal Sari is best done with your own transport. The location is quite far from Ubud City Center, some good 20 minutes walking. The man entrance with parking space is located some 100 meters from the main street Jalan Hanoman. Another alternative is to take Perama Shuttle bus to Ubud. The hotel map from the website shows that Perama Bus Station is quite close to Tegal Sari, although we didn't verify this during our stay

We receive an extraordinary treatment during checking in, some services that has been long gone from most Hotel. While waiting for them to prepare our keys, the reception officer provides us a brief explanation of the surrounding area, nearby attraction, and food to try.

Rooms and General Impression

We were booked at Superior Room on the 1st floor. Tegal Sari Superior room comes with bathtub, hot shower and coffee making facilities. The last one is important, as our room have a terrace facing to the vast rice paddy. It was such a rewarding experience to brew the coffee, sit at the terrace, and feel the breeze of morning in Ubud Bali.

But for some hot Bali evening, Tegal Sari also have a swimming pool. Not to big, but enough to cool down after such a long day. We didn't swim, but did spend some time sitting at the pool side, reading books and playing with our mobile phone until it gets dark.

I must highlight that, Tegal Sari room is the most cleanest hotel room that we ever stayed. It wasn't carpeted, but the floor, the table, the bathroom, and the other detail is very clean

Surroundings

Tegal Sari provide free bicycle rental to explore Ubud. The location is quite far from Ubud's City Center, such as the Market and Ubud Palace. Another alternative is to rent a motorcycle.

Even though we drive our own car, we didn't feel like going too far. There are some restaurant within short walking distance, convenience stores, and a wine house with quite good selection right just across the street. We choose Pizza Bagus for our dinner. And after a short tour to Ubud's Market, we decided to just go back to Tegal Sari for a good rest.

Recommendation

For the two of us, the price is a bargain for the services and the extraordinary view that we got. And many people think likewise that, despite of the cumbersome booking process, Tegal Sari Ubud is never short of patrons. Go try your luck to stay at one of the most recommended hotel in Ubud, Bali
